This 9-year-old Is FAST!
9-year-old sets half-marathon record.
The title of being "The world's fastest 9-year-old half marathoner" may sound like a very specific and easy title to win, but this kid's time will put your PR to shame. While having my morning cup of coffee I came across this story as reported by the Tampa Bay Times. The young athlete, Will Stone, is already a notable triathlete despite only being in the fourth grade. Stone crossed the finish line clocking in at 1:47:07, beating his father's time by over a minute. The young Stone set out to set a new world record for 9-year-olds and he has done it. Everyone in the running world should watch out for this kid, who is undoubtedly already being approached by trainers and recruiters.
I am unsure about exactly how I feel about this young man's achievement. Stone's time is impressive, especially for a 9-year-old but, I find it hard to believe a child in elementary school wants to run marathons or do triathlons without some sort of influence. Call me old fashioned but I still believe kids below the age of 14 should play outside or sports with friends, not training.
