Ahhh. The holidays…

The most wonderful time of year! The smell of pine, the taste of hot chocolate, the dizzying patterns on ugly Christmas sweaters. And let’s not forget the attic full of Christmas decorations! Step up your holiday decorating game this year. For you athletes who just cannot live without a healthy dose of your favorite sport, we have the perfect DIY craft that integrates your beloved sport into the holiday season. Holiday ball ornaments that is!

These adorable DIY sports ball ornaments take minutes to make, with minimal supplies.

**This project requires adult supervision. Please use items with caution! Parents building with their children should not let them handle the gluing and sewing, as it may be harmful.

Tools & Supplies:

  1. Baseball, Softball, Tennis Ball or Hockey Puck
  2. 4″ Santa Hat

Step 2 Fit Your Santa Hat

The small Santa hats should fit baseballs, hockey pucks and tennis balls perfectly!

**Special Instructions for Softball Ornaments. See images for assistance.

As these hats are made for cats, the LARGE Santa Hat is too small for 12 in softballs.

  • Cut the white elastic strap off of the inside of the hat.
  • Unfold the white fabric.
  • Neatly cut along the seam of the white fabric, and continue cutting about 1 inch into the red fabric. The back of the hat must remain split to fit on the ball.

Step-2

Step 3 Glue

  • Put on protective rubber gloves before gluing, as the glue may bleed through the fabric.
  • Position your hat on the ball. Place the hat so your decoration or print is visible.
  • On the front, glue the inside of your hat to the ball.
  • Allow time to dry.
  • Now glue the back of the hat to the ball. You can reinforce with more glue along the inside to ensure stability.

**Special Softball instructions:

  • On the backside, glue the cut flaps to the softball.

Step-3

Step 4 Attach Your Gold Thread

If you purchased the smaller 4″ Santa Hat from chalktalksports.com, you’re in luck! It already comes with ornament string attached.

**Special softball instructions:

  • Pinch and fold the cone of the hat to any side.
  • Using your large sewing needle and gold thread, sew your gold thread through both sides of the fabric.
  • Cut your thread and Tie off. Make sure to leave enough string to hang the ornament.

Step 5 Hang & Enjoy

TADAAAA! One beautiful sports themed ornament you can cherish for years to come.
